The National Institute of Design (NID), Kurukshetra has received approval from the commerce and industry ministry to begin academic session from 2016-17.

NID, which functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), ministry of commerce and industry, has campuses in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. Its Vijaywada campus too began functioning from 2015-16 academic session.

Earlier this year, the ministry had approved setting up of four new NIDs in Hyderabad, Goa, Varanasi and Jaipur, with an aim to establish India as a hub for world class designing.

“NIDs shall play a crucial role by providing the skills to empower our human capital towards world class designing,” said an official statement.

The institute offers Bachelors and Masters degrees in ‘Textile Design’, Masters degree in ‘Apparel Design’, and a Graduate Diploma in ‘Textile & Apparel Design’. (RKS)
