  • North Indian yarn markets displayed stability amid fluctuating cotton prices, with traders focusing on maintaining margins rather than passing cost benefits to buyers.
  • While cotton prices showed a downward trend, yarn prices remained stable across key markets like Delhi, Ludhiana and Panipat, despite variations in demand. Mills aimed to enhance margins.
The north Indian market witnessed a steady trend amid average demand. The intermediary product for the textile value chain was traded at previous levels in Delhi and Ludhiana. Traders from these markets stated that buying might vary according to local factors, but it would not influence yarn prices. A bearish tone in cotton prices also led to weak sentiments in yarn prices. Mills were trying to increase their margins instead of passing on the price cut of cotton to attract buyers. Panipat's recycled yarn market also saw slightly better demand amid price stability.

The Delhi market witnessed stability in cotton yarn. A trader from the Delhi market told Fibre2Fashion, "The market observed average buying and yarn prices remained stable. The fall in cotton prices did not lead to a cut in yarn prices because the local market did not experience as much of a price reduction as seen in ICE cotton." In this market, 30 count combed yarn was traded at ₹278-281 (approximately $3.33-3.37) per kg (GST extra), 40 count combed at ₹303-308 (approximately $3.63-3.69) per kg, 30 count carded at ₹253-258 (approximately $3.03-3.09) per kg, and 40 count carded at ₹280-283 (approximately $3.36-3.39) per kg today, as per Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

Cotton yarn traded steadily in the Ludhiana market as well. However, the demand was slightly better. A trader from the Ludhiana market told F2F, "Buyers were cautious after the fall in cotton prices, but they had to place orders due to depleting stocks. Mills were not keen to reduce yarn prices following the decline in cotton."

In Ludhiana, 30 count cotton combed yarn was sold at ₹274-284 (approximately $3.28-3.40) per kg (inclusive of GST); 20 and 25 count combed yarn were traded at ₹263-274 (approximately $3.15-3.28) per kg and ₹270-280 (approximately $3.24-3.36) per kg, respectively; and carded yarn of 30 count was noted at ₹254-261 (approximately $3.04-3.13) per kg today.

Panipat's recycled yarn market noted slightly better buying, but the prices remained stable. Buyers were more interested in selling their production instead of focusing on higher margins. According to trade sources, mills engaged in producing recycled yarn were keen to liquidate their stock to meet their financial needs and increase their business sales.

In Panipat, 10s recycled PC yarn (Grey) was traded at ₹76-80 (approximately $0.91-0.94) per kg (GST paid). Other varieties and counts included 10s recycled PC yarn (Black) at ₹51-54 (approximately $0.61-0.65) per kg, 20s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹88-93 (approximately $1.06-1.12) per kg, and 30s recycled PC yarn (Grey) at ₹125-130 (approximately $1.50-1.56) per kg. Cotton comber prices were noted at ₹120-122 (approximately $1.44-1.46) per kg. Recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) was noted at ₹74-76 (approximately $0.89-0.91) per kg today, as per TexPro.

North Indian cotton prices showed a negative tone with a fall of ₹50-60 per maund of 37.2 kg today. Spinning mills and other buyers were cautious about new purchases due to the sluggish trend in ICE cotton and a bearish scenario worldwide. Traders mentioned that the ICAC's latest report projected higher production globally. Prices also declined on ICE cotton due to slow demand and other macro factors.

Today's arrivals were noted at 4,500 bales of 170 kg. State-wise arrivals included 500 bales from Punjab, 2,000 bales from Haryana, 1,500 from upper Rajasthan, and 1,000 from lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,950 to ₹6,050 (approximately $71.30-72.50) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,900 to ₹6,000 (approximately $70.70-71.90). In upper Rajasthan, cotton was priced between ₹5,825 and ₹6,025 (approximately $69.82-72.20) per maund. Bikaner line cotton sold for ₹6,050 to ₹6,100 (approximately $72.50-73.10) per maund. In lower Rajasthan, cotton was priced at ₹57,200 to ₹59,200 (approximately $685.12-709.39) per candy of 356 kg.
