Cambodia imported fabric worth $1,450.459 million during January-May 2023. Of this, the import from China was $1,206.520 million, which was 83.18 per cent of the total, according to Fibre2Fashion’s market insight tool TexPro.
During the same period, Cambodia’s fabric import from India was valued at $6.727 million, which was 0.46 per cent of the total. India was on eighth position in the ranking of largest fabric suppliers to Cambodia. The inbound shipment from other nations was: Taiwan $89.891 million (6.20 per cent), Thailand $42.887 million (2.96 per cent), South Korea $30.717 million (2.12 per cent), Hong Kong $28.499 million (1.96 per cent), Malaysia $20.400 million (1.41 per cent) and Japan $12.428 million (0.850 per cent).
As per TexPro, Cambodia’s fabric imports from China decreased by 27.81 per cent in the first five months of this year, compared to $1,671.321 million of January-May 2022. The imports eased by 20.35 per cent to $878.984 million in January-May 2020 from $1,103.609 million of same period of 2019. But it recovered by 40.86 per cent to $1,238.113 million in corresponding period of 2021 and further jumped 34.99 per cent to $1,671.321 million in 2022.
