Pakistan’s Sindh province expects production of 3.5 million bales of cotton this season, Cotton Crop Assessment Committee chairman Syed Fakhar Imam was informed recently. Because of less rainfall, overall cotton production is expected to increase, he was told. Production in Punjab is expected to touch 4.5 million bales, registering an increase of nearly 8.5 per cent from last year. The overall cotton production is expected to reach 8.46 million bales.

A meeting of the committee was held on September 1. Imam is the federal minister for national food security and research.

Due to a strong attack of mealybug, whitefly and CLCuV, cotton production has been adversely affected, according to an official release.
