Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 20.92 per cent year-on-year to $2.780 billion during the nine-month period ending March 31, 2021, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 4.53 per cent to $2.268 billion.
Among textiles, cotton yarn exports decreased by 12.03 per cent to $721.212 million in July-March 2020-21, as against exports of $819.808 million made during the corresponding period of 2019-20. Exports of cotton fabric also declined by 8.28 per cent and were valued at $1.419 billion during the period under discussion.
Bedwear exports, on the other hand, increased by 16.50 per cent to $2.052 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports increased 30.05 per cent year-on-year to $440.985 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose 16.26 per cent to $499.785 million during the period under review. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan increased by 7.72 per cent year-on-year to $377.532 million during the nine-month period.
In fiscal 2019-20 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 6.01 per cent to $12.526 billion over $13.327 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
