Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 6.27 per cent year-on-year to $1.832 billion during the seven-month period ending January 31, 2020, while exports of non-knit readymade garments increased 10.84 per cent to $1.680 billion.
Among textiles, raw cotton exports fetched $15.889 million during the period under review, showing an increase of 9.99 per cent compared to exports of $14.446 million during the same period of the previous fiscal.
Cotton yarn exports increased by 0.78 per cent to $640.001 million, as against exports of $635.040 million made during the first seven months of fiscal 2018-19. Exports of cotton fabric, on the other hand, decreased by 3.62 per cent and were valued at $1.189 billion during the first seven months of fiscal 2019-20. Bedwear exports increased by 2.77 per cent to $1.392 billion, the data showed.
On the import side, synthetic fibre imports were down 21.09 per cent year-on-year to $260.753 million and imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn were down by 8.00 per cent to $335.549 million. Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan decreased by 9.18 per cent year-on-year to $280.62 million during the period under review.
In fiscal 2018-19 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan decreased by 1.42 per cent to $13.329 billion over $13.520 billion exports in the previous fiscal.
