Experts from across the textile value chain, including policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and NGOs, will gather to discuss key challenges and opportunities in India's journey towards sustainable textile production, the PHDCCI said in a press release.
The 2nd Sustainable Textile Summit will witness engaging discussions on critical issues. Key topics include ‘compliance and best practices’, where participants will delve into navigating evolving global regulations and setting standards for responsible textile production. Another significant focus will be on ‘sustainable targets,’ which will explore the roadmap for achieving ambitious environmental goals and building a circular economy. The summit will also highlight ‘emerging technologies’ by examining the role of advanced technologies like polymer processing, manmade fibre innovation, and efficient recycling in sustainable textile manufacturing.
Additionally, the summit will address the creation of ‘green value chains,’ aiming to establish sustainable and ethical practices from farm to fashion. This includes building transparent and responsible supply chains that are crucial for the industry's future. ‘Textile recycling’ is another pivotal area, where the intersection of environmental and economic benefits will be explored, with a focus on finding efficient recycling solutions and uncovering new market opportunities.
The summit will also underscore the importance of ‘collective action for change,’ showcasing how collaborative efforts can reshape the Indian textile landscape towards sustainability.
The summit will feature a lineup of thought leaders from diverse backgrounds. Among the distinguished speakers are Prajakta L Verma, joint secretary at the ministry of textiles, government of India, and Madhu Sudhan Bhageria, who serves as the chair of the PHDCCI Textiles Committee and is the CMD of Filatex India Ltd. Dr. Abhijit Majumdar from IIT Delhi and Professor Prabir Jana from NIFT will also contribute their insights. Abhishek Jani, CEO of Fairtrade India, and Anil Jadhav, regional director for South Asia and Middle East at Ecocert will also be present.
Additionally, Debabrata Ghosh, vice president and sales director at Oerlikon Textiles, Dr Siva Pariti, Sr technical marketing officer at BluWin, Manisha Chaudhary, national coordinator at UNEP, and Anupam Prasad, head of office-India at Sedex, will be sharing their perspectives. The academic representation continues with Professor Bipin Kumar from the department of textile and fibre engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The summit will also feature Shweta Basu, manager at CDP, and Saket Kulkarni, implementation manager for South Asia at ZDHC will be present. Jaswant Singh, Sr manager of sustainability operations at EKI Energy Services Ltd, and Abhishek Bansal, head of sustainability at Arvind Ltd will also be present.
