Rajasthan government has announced plans to introduce a garment policy to boost labour-intensive textile industries. The state’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Diya Kumari made the proposal in her budget speech on Wednesday. It was the first full-year state budget of the Bhajan Lal Sharma government.

The minister said in her budget speech that she is proposing a policy for the development of textile-related industries. Rajasthan is one of the major cotton-producing and processing states in north India. The state is also known for its denim, weaving and spinning industries. Diya Kumari presented the budget today in the state assembly in Jaipur.

She has also proposed formulating a policy to promote the one district-one product scheme. The minister said that it aims to make Rajasthan an export hub. The government also announced plans to introduce a new policy for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME). A logistics policy will also be introduced by the government.

Minister Kumari said that the state needs better infrastructure for higher economic growth. The government will boost investment in the state's infrastructure. Regarding power generation, the government has said that the state’s energy demand is expected to rise at an annual rate of 6 per cent. The government will prepare an action plan to increase power generation to match the demand. The state will also have an easy policy for land allocation for solar energy and other types of renewable energy.

Bhilwara-based textile businessman Varun Agrawal told Fibre2Fashion, “Rajasthan’s textile industry is facing headwinds due to slow demand. The state is facing a power crisis, which is making it difficult to streamline production for textile factories. The state government has mandated power cuts from 9 PM to 3 AM, causing mills to cancel the entire night shift.”
