Samarth, an initiative under the ministry of textiles, has further broadened its reach, partnering with a total of 157 textile industries and industry associations, 16 central and state government agencies, and 3 sectoral organisations of the ministry. The partnerships aim to conduct various training programmes under the Samarth initiative across the nation.
The committee has revised the funding pattern, increasing cost norms by 5 per cent. This modification will deliver much-needed additional financial support to industries imparting skill under the Samarth Scheme, further encouraging capacity building in the sector, the ministry of textiles said in a press release.
Samarth has successfully made inroads across 28 states and 6 Union territories. Of the target of 4.72 lakh beneficiaries allocated so far, 1.88 lakh have received training. The scheme has found success among women, with more than 85 per cent of the beneficiaries being female. Additionally, over 70 per cent of the beneficiaries trained in organised sector courses have secured placements, underlining the effectiveness of the programme.
Beyond entry-level skilling, Samarth also operationalised a special provision for upskilling and re-skilling to enhance the productivity of existing workers in apparel and garmenting segments. The scheme also addresses the upskilling and re-skilling needs of traditional textile sectors such as handloom, handicraft, silk, and jute.
