  • In Ludhiana, polyester-cotton yarn prices dropped due to low demand and falling cotton prices.
  • Conversely, polyester and viscose yarn prices increased slightly in various Indian markets, supported by limited imports and local manufacturing adjustments.
  • Surat saw an increase in polyester yarn prices following the Quality Control Order impacting imports.
In Ludhiana's market, the price of polyester-cotton yarn declined by ₹5-6 per kg. However, prices of polyester and viscose yarns showed an upward trend. In various Indian markets, polyester and viscose yarn prices eased by ₹2-4 per kg. Low demand and cheaper cotton prices led to a drop in PC yarn prices. However, limited imports and rate increases by local manufacturers supported the market prices of polyester and viscose yarns. Trade sources stated that seasonal demand drove up the prices of viscose and polyester yarns. Nonetheless, buyers preferred to schedule further purchases at higher prices as they wanted to assess demand from the garment industry.

The Surat market witnessed a rise of ₹3-4 per kg in polyester yarn prices over the last week. A trader from the Surat market informed Fibre2Fashion, “Local manufacturers increased polyester fibre prices as the implementation of the Quality Control Order (QCO) has restricted imports from other countries. Seasonal demand also supported market sentiments.”

According to trade sources in Surat, 30-count polyester spun yarn was traded at ₹144-145 (approximately $1.72-1.74) per kg (GST extra), 40-count polyester spun yarn at ₹160-162 (approximately $1.92-1.94) per kg, 50/48 fully drawn yarn (FDY) at ₹119-120 (approximately $1.42-1.44) per kg, 75/72 FDY at ₹109-110 (approximately $1.30-1.32) per kg, 75 bright yarn at ₹109-110 (approximately $1.30-1.32) per kg, and 30 viscose compact yarn (local) at ₹202-204 (approximately $2.42-2.44) per kg (GST extra).

In Mumbai, viscose yarn prices stabilised after a steep rise in the recent past. A trader from Mumbai said that buyers were trying to assess the demand in the garment industry before booking further purchases. In fact, buyers were cautious after the rise in viscose yarn prices. Imported 30-count viscose vertex yarn was priced at ₹182-188 (approximately $2.18-2.25) per kg, and local 30-count ring-spun viscose yarn at ₹190-196 (approximately $2.27-2.35) per kg in this market.

The Ludhiana market noticed a mixed trend in polyester-cotton and polyester spun yarn prices. According to market sources, PC yarn prices eased after a drop in natural fibre prices in both domestic and global markets, falling up to ₹4-5 per kg in the last couple of days. However, the polyester spun yarn market noted an upward trend last week. Traders said that polyester yarn prices stabilised after a rise last week as higher prices discouraged buying.

In Ludhiana, 30 count PC combed yarn (48/52) traded at ₹210-220 (approximately $2.51-2.63) per kg (GST inclusive), 30 count PC carded yarn (65/35) at ₹196-206 (approximately $2.35-2.47) per kg, 20 count recycled polyester fibre yarn at ₹106-114 (approximately $1.27-1.36) per kg, 30 count polyester spun at ₹157-165 (approximately $1.88-1.98) per kg (GST inclusive), and recycled polyester fibre (PET bottle fibre) at ₹74-77 (approximately $0.89-0.92) per kg.

In North India, cotton prices have seen a steep fall of ₹150-175 per maund of 37.2 kg over the last couple of days. Traders stated that domestic cotton prices have followed a declining trend in ICE cotton, which has reached multi-month lows due to various factors. Local mills were not interested in new purchases.

Today's cotton arrivals decreased to 2,700 bales of 170 kg in north India. State-wise arrivals were as follows: 300 bales in Punjab, 1,000 bales in Haryana, 800 bales in upper Rajasthan, and 600 bales in lower Rajasthan. Cotton prices in Punjab ranged from ₹5,750 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.84-69.43) per maund of 37.2 kg, while in Haryana, prices ranged from ₹5,700 to ₹5,800 (approximately $68.24-69.43).
