The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the month was estimated to be 9.5 per cent, with a 0.5-percentage-point decrease compared to the April figure. It was estimated to be 7.7 per cent for men and 13 per cent for women.
The seasonally-adjusted employment rate in May was 48.5 per cent without any change. It was 66 per cent for men and 31.4 per cent for women.
The seasonally-adjusted labour force participation rate was 53.6 per cent in May, with a 0.3-percentage-point decrease. This rate was 71.5 per cent for men and 36.1 per cent for women.
The seasonally-adjusted youth unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group was 17 per cent in the month, with 1.6 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month. This rate was 14.3 per cent for men and 22.3 per cent for women.
In May this year, the rate of composite measure of labour underutilization, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labour force and unemployment, was 22.5 per cent on a seasonally adjusted basis—a 1.2-percentage-point decrease compared to the previous month.
