  • Mumbai market is stable and Tiruppur expects positive movements next month.

Cotton yarn prices are expected to get a boost in the coming weeks, as market experts anticipate better demand from the downstream industry. There is optimism about a positive movement in fabric as well since garment manufacturing for the summer season is likely to pick up in the near future. Cotton yarn prices have remained stable in Mumbai and Tiruppur, with demand being average in both markets. However, positive sentiments persist, as traders expect that cotton yarn prices are hovering at the bottom line and will only see an upward movement in the weeks to come.

The Mumbai market witnessed a steady trend in cotton yarn prices, but there was optimism in the market for better demand soon. A trader from Mumbai told Fibre2Fashion, “Most power looms will begin production from next week, as workers return after the Diwali holiday. This is expected to improve the demand for cotton yarn. Fabric buying will also pick up in the following weeks, as manufacturing of summer garments is set to begin very soon.”

In Mumbai, 60 carded yarn of warp and weft varieties was sold at ₹1,400-1,420 and ₹1,275-1,330 per 5 kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices include 60 combed warp at ₹315-322 per kg, 80 carded weft at ₹1,400-1,440 per 4.5 kg, 44/46 carded warp at ₹254-259 per kg, 40/41 carded warp at ₹238-244 per kg, 40/41 combed warp at ₹262-266 and 30/32 carded warp at ₹227-232 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.

The Tiruppur market also noted a stable trend in cotton yarn prices. The market is expected to take on a positive tone next week. Spinning mills in south India may increase mill rates for the next month. A trader from Tiruppur told Fibre2Fashion, “Next month is expected to see better sentiments. It's not only cotton yarn, but also the fabric trade that can take positive guidance. Cotton yarn prices seem set to move upward from the present bottom line.”

In Tiruppur market, cotton yarn prices remained stable. The prices were noted as 30 count combed cotton yarn at ₹258-263 per kg (excluding GST), 34 count combed cotton yarn at ₹266-271 per kg, 40 count combed cotton yarn at ₹280-285 per kg, 30 count carded cotton yarn at ₹233-236 per kg, 34 count carded cotton yarn at ₹237-242 per kg and 40 count carded cotton yarn at ₹240-250 per kg, as per TexPro.

Cotton prices were stable in the Gujarat market amid muted buying from spinning mills. Cotton arrivals increased in Gujarat and across the country. According to traders, spinning mills were cautious in their buying as they had already booked enough for their industrial consumption. Limited cash flow also deterred mills from booking more natural fibre.

In the Gujarat market, Shankar-6 cotton was quoted between ₹56,500-56,800 per candy of 356 kg. Southern mills intended to buy cotton at ₹57,200-57,500 per candy. The arrival was around 35,000 bales of 170 kg in Gujarat. The all-India arrival was estimated at 1,10,000-1,12,000 bales of 170 kg.
