At this year’s K 2019 Stahl will be highlighting how it is using responsible chemistry to drive sustainability in the face of resource depletion and the increasing environmental impact resulting from mass production.
Stahl develops performance solutions that reduce environmental impact by cutting the dependence on petrochemical sources and developing products that are free of restricted substances. Stahl has developed dedicated product ranges that comply with Manufacturing Restricted Substances Lists (MRSL’s) of various brands in automotive, footwear, fashion and luxury goods markets, including the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) and the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List (GADSL).
Supported by its strong, in-house R&D capabilities, Stahl also invests in technologies and partnerships to turn new materials into durable and sustainable products. These materials are made from fruit waste and organic ingredients, among others.
A further element in Stahl’s responsible chemistry strategy is to use biotechnology to develop sustainable products. This involves switching to bio-based materials – derived from captured carbon, or materials that include recycled content. By working with partners on innovative and responsible bio-based and biodegradable solutions, Stahl aims to reduce the impact of its products on the environment.
With consumers increasingly expecting experiences that involve multiple senses, Stahl will also use K 2019 to showcase technologies that create a particular soft touch, for example, or ‘perfect’ look. At the show, visitors will be able to discover innovative Stahl technologies, such as its original bio-based PolyMatte, a market first developed in-house that offers a low to extreme-low gloss (<1 per cent at 60° angle) matte coating combined with a film-forming smooth-touch surface.
When it comes to ensuring the durability, aesthetics and safety of end-products, only the highest performance coatings are acceptable. Stahl will therefore use K 2019 to showcase its various high-performance coating technologies, including: a) Stay Clean, a dirt-repelling, anti-soiling, anti-stain and anti-scratch coating technology that helps to improve post-purchase consumer satisfaction and brand perception b) Carbodiimide Crosslinkers that improve coating performance on wear, abrasion, chemical and stain resistance, toughness and blocking properties c) Flame-retardant technologies that are tailored to suit precise requirements.
