Sri Lankan apparel manufacturer Star Garment has become a model of sustainable development. The obsolete factory building has transformed into a green product development centre. The Jordan Parnass Digital Architecture (JPDA) has contributed in the development of the centre that has become a model for high performance buildings in the region of Katunayake.

Star Garment Group is one of the key players in the Sri Lankan apparel industry, which provides high quality, ethical product development, sourcing and production services.

JPDA engaged as Passive House Designers have worked in collaboration with the team of local architects and engineers under the guidance and detailed energy modelling by Steven Winter Associates. The factory has been renovated according to the EnerPHit standards for efficiency. EnerPHit is the established standard for refurbishment of existing buildings using Passive House components.

The renovated factory will help in reducing the usage of primary energy by 75 per cent, while providing occupants with a temperate, comfortable working environment. (RR)
