Also known as the mini Olympics, the Universiade will conclude on August 30, 2017. The event is being hosted for the first time by Taipei. The games are a rare opportunity for Taiwanese companies to showcase their best and latest innovations, especially eco-friendly textile and high performance sportswear.
"Around half of the world's firefighter clothing and 80 per cent of the yoga apparel in the US are made in Taiwan," said Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je. "Taiwan is also the maker of the team jerseys worn by more than 10 national teams competing on the fields of the 2014 FIFA World Cup," he added.
Taipei government will convert 200,000 plastic bottles generated from the bottled water during this event into eco-friendly blankets. It is an international platform to showcase top-notch innovative green products from eco-textiles to materials used in its green venues. The torchbearers also wore the designed apparel whose fabric infused with leftover coffee bean grounds. (RR)
