  • Tecnimont, part of MAIRE, will commence construction of a low-carbon ammonia plant for Fertiglobe in Abu Dhabi's TA'ZIZ Derivatives Park.
  • The plant, set to operate in 2027, will produce 1 million tons of ammonia annually and support local industry supply chains.
  • It aims to decarbonise the maritime industry and reduce coal power station emissions.

Further to the announcement made on 7 July 2022, MAIRE (MAIRE.MI) informs that Tecnimont (Integrated E&C Solutions) has received from Fertiglobe the notice to proceed with the construction activities related to the low-carbon ammonia plant under development in TA’ZIZ Derivatives Park, in the Ruwais region (Abu Dhabi, UAE).

Fertiglobe, the largest nitrogen fertilizer producer in the MENA region, is developing the low carbon ammonia plant with its project partners TA’ZIZ (a JV between ADNOC and Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund ADQ), Mitsui & Co. Ltd and GS Energy Corporation.

Once in operation in 2027, the ammonia facility, covering 10.8 hectares, will produce 3,000 tons per day (approximately 1 million tons per annum) of ammonia. The plant will be one of a series of global-scale chemical and industrial facilities that TA’ZIZ is developing in the area which will boost local industry supply chains and enhance the In-Country Value requirements.

As a transition fuel, low-carbon ammonia plays a strategic role in decarbonizing the maritime industry, as well as having several additional energy applications including co-firing in the coal power stations to reduce the carbon footprint.

Alessandro Bernini, MAIRE Group CEO, commented: “We are extremely pleased of being confirmed preferred partner for the ambitious development projects in the region. The low-carbon ammonia represents a step forward the decarbonization plans of the UAE and our technological know-how and engineering capabilities will contribute to accelerate the energy transition in the Gulf”.
