The Telangana government recently sought allocation of funds in the 2021-22 union budget for development of the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) and sanction of a mega power loom cluster at Sircilla. In a letter to textiles minister Smriti Irani, state minister KT Rama Rao said KMTP is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹1,552 crore of which the core infrastructure works would cost ₹1,094 crore.
“Under the proposed scheme, we understand that a total of ₹500 crore capital support is available for a Mega Textile Park. Requesting the Irani to establish a mega power loom cluster at Sircilla under the Comprehensive Power loom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS), Rao said as many as 35,588 power looms are in Telangana, with 25,495 in the Sircilla sistrict, a news agency reported.
The state minister also requested the central government to sanction an Indian Institute of Handloom Technology for Telangana.
