Texprocil has cancelled 2nd edition of its flagship event, Ind-Texpo 2020, a Reverse Buyer Seller Meet, due to health risk posed by coronavirus. The event was to be held at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from March17-19 and had over 70 exhibitors showcasing yarns, apparel fabrics, denim fabrics, etc with over 100 importers expected to visit from over 25 countries.

As a part of its business matchmaking program, Ind-Texpo 2020 would have featured exclusive B2B meetings for the exhibiting companies to spend quality time with overseas buyers based on a pre-determined schedule of time slots during the exhibition.

The Indian Government has also been issuing regular travel advisories restricting international travel as well as to reduce mass gatherings of any form given the present magnitude of this virus. At a meeting on March 11 of a high level group of ministers to review the current status, and actions for prevention and management of COVID-19, it was decided that all existing visas to India stand suspended till April 15, thereby completely restricting international travel of buyers to the Ind-Texpo show.

Many international buyers have also expressed apprehensions regarding travel to India due to the prevailing situation during this period. Many of the countries from which the buyers were visiting have also issued travel advisories along with quarantine regulations on the buyers’ return from an overseas trip.

“We have to understand the public safety and health risk posed by the virus to all our esteemed Indian exhibitors and buyers coming from abroad and so, given the nature of this unpredictable situation and knowing that all this is well beyond our control, we were left with no option but to cancel the event,” said chairman of Texprocil, Dr K V Srinivasan.

Ind-Texpo, since its launch edition, has been successful in integrating the textile value chain at a single global trading platform. Alongside the exhibition, the event also facilitates exchange of high-quality market intelligence to support industry efforts to attain a competitive edge and move up the value chain with a renewed vigour and better understanding of global trade.

The future dates for the Ind-Texpo show are yet to be announced.
