Over the last 12 months, the all items index increased by 2.5 per cent before seasonal adjustment—the smallest 12-month increase since February 2021.
The CPI-U for apparel increased in August by 0.3 per cent from a fall of 0.4 per cent in July. The index for household furnishings decreased over the month.
The index for all items less food and energy rose by 0.3 per cent in August after rising by 0.2 per cent in the preceding month. This index rose by 3.2 per cent over the last 12 months.
The energy index decreased by 4 per cent for the 12 months ending August and decreased by 0.8 per cent in August, after being unchanged in July.
