Over the last eight months, a draft revised version of the P&C has been developed with input from technical experts and other stakeholders and will shortly be ready for public input.
“You are warmly invited to comment on the draft revised P&C between 28 July and 30 September 2022, during our Public Stakeholder Consultation,” Better Cotton has said.
The upcoming public consultation is a key milestone in the revision process, which follows codes of good practice for voluntary standards and is expected to run to early 2023. The inputs will be critical for the organisation to ensure that the revised P&C reflects the needs and aspirations of all stakeholders involved in Better Cotton and hence continues to drive field-level change.
The P&C are one of the key instruments of the Better Cotton Standard System, which works to drive the cotton sector towards a more sustainable, more equitable and climate-friendly future. The P&C set out the requirements for sustainable cotton that apply to more than two million farmers growing Better Cotton around the world.
By informing the activities of farmers on the ground, the P&C are also a key driver for Better Cotton to reach the 2030 Strategy and impact targets. “By revising the P&C now, we are ensuring they align with leading practice and support our ambitions and ten-year plan to make cotton better for the environment, for the farmers who produce it and for all those who have a stake in the future of the sector,” the organisation added.
