Japanese firm Teijin's FY20 sales fall 2% to ¥836 bn

Teijin Ltd, a Japanese company engaged in aramid, carbon fibre and composite moulding material, has reported 2.0 per cent sales decline to ¥836.5 billion (Japanese yen) in fiscal 2020 ended on March 31, 2021, compared to the sales of ¥853.7 billion in the previous fiscal. The company’s operating income during FY20 was ¥54.9 billion (FY19: ¥56.2 billion).
 
Gross profit for the year dropped to ¥254.9 billion (¥263.4 billion), while selling, general and administrative expenses were ¥200.0 billion (¥207.2 billion). The company’s ordinary income was ¥53.6 billion (¥54.3 billion), and loss for FY20 was ¥4.2 billion (profit: ¥26.9 billion).
 
Sales of materials segment slipped to ¥296.9 billion (¥327.5 billion) and healthcare segment sales were ¥148.6 billion (¥153.9 billion). However, fibres & products converting segment sales grew to ¥314.9 billion (¥306.3 billion).
 
Geographically, Teijin’s sales improved in Japan ¥490.1 billion (¥477.5 billion) and China to ¥109.8 billion (¥100.8 billion). Moreover, US sales dipped to ¥97.0 billion (¥109.9 billion), whereas sales from Asia declined to ¥58.0 billion (¥72.5 billion).
