In Gujarat, the ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) has sanctioned two Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) clusters—the Samavedana Coir Cluster and the Tarapur Coir Cluster—with a project outlay of ₹472.73 lakhs, which will throw open more employment opportunities, according to an official release.
In Maharashtra, the MSME ministry has sanctioned two SFURTI clusters—the Pendur Coir Cluster and the Sawantwadi Coir cluster—with a project outlay of ₹361.86 lakhs.
The Coir Board plans to develop the sector in the Konkan zone for which the present sub-regional office of the Board at Sindhudurg has being shifted and upgraded to a regional office at Kudal.
There are also plans to form five new coir clusters under SFURTI scheme with a total financial outlay of ₹25 crore. A new Coir Board showroom and sales depot will be opened at Pune for exploring the huge market potential in Pune, Alibag and its suburban cities.
Fifty coir exporters to be identified and registered under the Board focusing on the ports of Mumbai, Vizag and Kandla for fostering export markets within three years.
