Additionally, Japan saw a 1.3 per cent year-on-year decrease in its textile yarn and fabric imports in January-June 2024, totalling 561,889 million yen and accounting for 1.0 per cent of total imports.
In June 2024, the imports of clothing and accessories were noted at 240,887 million yen (approximately $1.584 billion), which was 0.6 per cent higher than the inbound shipment during the same period last year. Japan’s imports of textile yarn and fabric decreased by 13.5 per cent to 7,109 million yen in the same month.
Japan's exports of textile yarn and fabric increased by 8.9 per cent in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year, reaching 403,331 million yen, while exports of textile machinery dropped by 20.3 per cent during the same period, amounting to 128,147 million yen and contributing 0.2 per cent to total exports. The outbound shipment of textile yarn and fabric was noted as 73,516 million yen in June 2024, 6.3 per cent higher than the trade in the corresponding period last year. Textile machinery exports fell by 26.8 per cent to 19,143 million yen in the same month.
During fiscal 2023-24 (April to March), Japan's imports of clothing and accessories were 3,564,850 million yen (approximately $23.107 billion), marking a drop of 1.7 per cent. Imports of textile yarn and fabric eased by 10.4 per cent to 1,143,805 million yen. During the same fiscal, Japan exported textile yarn and fabric valued at 802,178 million yen, while textile machinery exports amounted to 320,947 million yen.
In fiscal 2022-23, Japan’s imports of clothing and accessories were 3,619,550 million yen (approximately $25.05 billion), and textile yarn and fabric imports were 1,275,608 million yen. During the same fiscal, Japan exported textile yarn and fabric valued at 776,999 million yen, while textile machinery exports amounted to 306,781 million yen.
