The country’s exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS Chapter 61) reached $3,098.316 million in January-April 2024, marking an 8.9 per cent decrease from $3,400.237 million in the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS Chapter 62) amounted to $2,540.350 million, representing a 13.7 per cent drop compared to $2,944.030 million in January-April 2023, as per the trade report of the top twenty chapters.
In April 2024, Turkiye’s exports saw a drop, falling 16.08 per cent to $1,200.974 million. Exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories fell by 11.2 per cent, totalling $689.624 million in April 2024, compared to $776.663 million in April 2023. Shipments of non-knitted apparel and accessories also declined, dropping by 21.8 per cent from $654.030 million in April 2023 to $511.350 million in the same month of 2024.
The imports of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles (HS Chapter 65) by Turkiye also dipped 14.4 per cent to $813.214 million in January-April 2024 from $950.032 million in the same period of last year. Its imports increased by 5.5 per cent to $267.495 million in April 2024 from $253.446 million in the same period of last year. It is the only textile product featured in Turkiye's top 20 chapters in its imports in April 2024.
In 2023, the country’s apparel exports eased by 5.86 per cent to $18.321 billion from $19.463 billion in 2022. Turkiye's apparel exports were recorded at $18.294 billion in 2021.
