The Baltimore shipping lane in the United States fully reopened yesterday. It was blocked for over two months after a cargo ship collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March, sending it crashing into the Patapsco river.

The riverbed was certified as safe for transit and will allow two-way traffic.

The channel was restored to its original dimensions by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Navy Supervisor of Salvage Diving. About 50,000 tonnes of debris was removed from the river, a statement from the Key Bridge Response Unified Command said.

The port is one of the busiest ports in the United States and a key hub for the auto industry.
