China’s freight industry has seen a significant surge in the first half (H1) of 2023, as per data by the ministry of transport. The country’s freight volume increased by 6.8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to 25.93 billion tons from January to June.The road cargo transportation sector particularly flourished, marking a 7.5 per cent YoY increase, amounting to 19.01 billion tons. Air cargo transport also saw a rise, with 3.28 million tons transported, reflecting a 6.4 per cent increase from the same period in the previous year, according to local media reports.

Road cargo transportation grew by 7.5 per cent, amounting to 19.01 billion tons, and air cargo transport rose by 6.4 per cent to 3.28 million tons.
Port throughput increased by 8 per cent to 8.19 billion tons.
Additionally, port throughput rose by 8 per cent to 8.19 billion tons, and container throughput reached 150 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up by 4.8 per cent YoY.
