The Tiruppur market witnessed a steady trend after a rise in cotton yarn prices earlier this week. The market noted weaker demand from the downstream industry. Spinning mills were not intending to cut prices after slow demand as the cost of production increased following a rise in cotton prices. A trader from Tiruppur told Fibre2Fashion, “There was slow demand from the weaving industry. The garment industry was not receiving sufficient orders from domestic and export markets. If exporters are receiving better trade enquiries from foreign buyers, it is a good sign.” Some industry experts suggested higher trade enquiries from foreign buyers for the next summer season.
Prices in the Tiruppur market were noted as 30 count combed cotton yarn ₹258-265 per kg (excluding GST), 34 count combed cotton yarn ₹268-275 per kg, 40 count combed cotton yarn ₹275-285 per kg, 30 count carded cotton yarn ₹235-240 per kg, 34 count carded cotton yarn ₹240-245 per kg, and 40 count carded cotton yarn ₹246-253 per kg, according to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro.
Cotton yarn prices were stable in the Mumbai market as well. Mills were striving to increase prices of certain varieties and counts to recover additional production costs, but the market was not supportive. A trader from the Mumbai market told Fibre2Fashion, “Some mills were trying to push prices of 60 carded weft yarn, but it remained unmoved. Waiting for better demand was taking longer as local festival demand was also still slow.”
In Mumbai, 60 carded yarn of warp and weft varieties sold at ₹1,420-1,440 and ₹1,312-1,355 per 5 kg (excluding GST), respectively. Other prices include 60 combed warp ₹322-328 per kg, 80 carded weft ₹1,305-1,330 per 4.5 kg, 44/46 carded warp ₹255-260 per kg, 40/41 carded warp ₹240-244 per kg, and 40/41 combed warp ₹268-272 per kg, as per TexPro.
In Gujarat, cotton prices remained unchanged after easing during the previous trading session. Traders said that spinning mills were not active for fresh buying. The mills were discouraged due to higher prices of cotton last week. Poor demand from the weaving industry also discouraged them. In the Gujarat market, Shankar-6 cotton was quoted between ₹60,000-61,000 per candy. Cotton arrival was around 7,000 bales of 170 kg in Gujarat. All India arrival was estimated at 22,000 bales.
