Pulp Issue Jun 01, 06

Wood pulp continued to follow the stable trend recently in China. Staple-grade pulp was traded at US$ 680-690/ton and the spot price was around RMB 6,600/ton. Cotton pulp also faced pressure in price hike due to the current bearish market sentiment in the wood pulp industry. Staple-grade cotton pulp was priced at RMB 6,900-7,000/ton on delivered basis, while filament-grade was RMB 7,500-7,600/ton.

Domestic wood pulp sentiment remained stable on entering into the second week as well. Staple-grade remained stable and its spot prices were around RMB 6,650/ton. Under the circumstances, cotton pulp also faced difficulties in price hike, and targeted level could not be actually realised even if it there was a hike in offer. Staple-grade cotton pulp was priced at RMB 6,900-7,000/ton on delivered basis, while filament-grade was between RMB 7,500-7,600/ton which was same as compared to the last week. No fluctuation happened to wood pulp market lately. Staple-grade wood pulp was offered at US$ 690-710/ton, and deals were done at US$680-690/ton. Filament-grade was transacted between US$ 810-830/ton.

Future Market: The price for pulp is likely to move up in short term as downstream viscose industry is moving up.
