Can you share the inspiration behind starting BooYaa Golf and how the brand name was conceived?

Drawing inspiration from years of experience with renowned international brands, I was motivated to create a golf apparel brand that resonates with golfers’ triumphant moments, both on and off the course. My research revealed that to stand out, I needed to break away from the conventional golf brand norms. Most golf brands are generic names or designer labels that lack personal connection and meaning. They do not evoke the excitement and pride that comes with achieving a victory. That is why I created BooYaa – a brand name that is meant to be shouted out loud in celebratory moments, like sinking a winning putt or making a thrilling chip-in. The idea is simple: if you cannot shout it out with pride, you cannot wear it. BooYaa is more than just a brand – it is a rallying cry for golfers to express their triumphs and connect with others who share their passion.

What makes BooYaa Golf stand out in the competitive golf apparel and accessories market?

BooYaa sets itself apart from other golf apparel brands in every way. Our unique approach to design, infused with energy and thoughtful consideration, combined with the use of high-quality materials, makes us truly distinctive. A BooYaa enthusiast is instantly recognisable – their confidence and vibrant energy radiate, setting them apart from the crowd. We do not just offer stylish apparel; we also incorporate cutting-edge materials into our products and golf accessories. Sustainability and eco-consciousness are growing trends. How do you align with these values in your products and operations?

Eco-consciousness has become increasingly important in each of BooYaa’s style drops. We use eco-friendly, recycled bags to deliver our products. We have conducted extensive research into becoming more sustainable across our entire product range, and we are excited to introduce eco-friendly, recycled materials into our items, such as bamboo, charcoal, coffee, and recycled plastic. At BooYaa, we are passionate about caring for the environment, and we are proud to align our values with the goal of protecting the planet in every possible way.

Your website highlights unique designs and functionality. Could you tell us more about the design process and how customer feedback influences product development?

The BooYaa website, managed by Chantel van Greune, has experienced significant growth over the past nine months. The team takes great care in presenting products with accurate, detailed images, including close-ups that highlight the quality of branding materials. Each product description provides essential information about the materials used, such as polyester, spandex, and nylon, ensuring that customers are fully informed about their purchases. Models are carefully selected to represent a professional golf aesthetic, and the designs are created to be easily mixed and matched with other BooYaa products. This ensures a cohesive and stylish golfing wardrobe, where items like shorts, golf shirts, and caps complement each other seamlessly.

How do you ensure that your products meet the specific needs of golfers, both in terms of performance and style?

We ensure this by considering three key factors: style, comfortability, and price point. As avid golfers ourselves, co-founder Johan van Greune and I personally test our products on and off the course, pushing them to the limit in extreme conditions to guarantee quality and performance. We have made intentional design adjustments to surpass industry standards, such as lengthening our shirts to prevent riding up during powerful swings. Our athletic fit, tailored collars, and thoughtful designs aim to provide golfers with confidence-boosting apparel that combines style and functionality. Through extensive research and a passion for innovation, we strive to be trendsetters in the industry, catering to the modern golfer who values individuality and self-expression.

BooYaa Golf operates in South Africa. What role does the local golfing culture play in shaping your brand and product offerings?

South African golf culture is the lifeblood of BooYaa Golf, and we are proud to be a part of its vibrant evolution! We dared to be different from the start, breaking free from the conservative norm and embracing our unique heritage. As a creative, I drew inspiration from our country’s diverse culture and bold spirit, ensuring our brand and products would be truly one-of-a-kind. Our iconic ‘All Sorts’ golf shirt, named after the beloved South African candy, is a testament to this approach – its loud, proud design has become a global favourite! By embracing our South African roots, we have been able to offer something fresh and exciting to the golfing world. And now, as we expand globally, we are excited to offer more stylish and high-quality options to ladies and kids back home, bringing the best of South African flair to the world!

What challenges have you faced as a golf apparel brand in South Africa, and how have you overcome them?

BooYaa has faced significant scepticism as a golf apparel brand in South Africa. Many locals and competitors found it hard to believe that a high-quality brand like BooYaa could originate from within the country. Doubts arose, with people questioning how the brand secured distribution rights, and when it was revealed that BooYaa was homegrown, it often came as a surprise. Despite these challenges, we persisted, breaking through the monopolies that had restricted other local brands. It was not long before influential golf personalities took notice, helping to silence the doubters.
Today, BooYaa designs apparel for major corporate clients and receives consistent repeat orders. The brand has firmly established itself as a premium option, delivering exceptional quality and value, far surpassing cheaper, promotional alternatives. BooYaa’s mission has always been to create apparel that customers will wear repeatedly, not simply discard. And we are achieving just that. Proudly South African then, now, and always!

Can you share any upcoming innovations or new product lines that BooYaa Golf is working on for the near future?

Locally (South Africa):
1. Establish BooYaa Golf as a leading golf apparel brand in South Africa, with a strong retail presence and online store.
2. Grow our local customer base by 20 per cent annually through targeted marketing and customer engagement initiatives.
3. Partner with local golf courses and organisations to increase brand visibility and offer exclusive products.
Internationally:
1. Expand our e-commerce platform to reach golfers in key international markets (US, Europe, Australia, and Asia).
2. Establish a strong global distribution network with partnerships in 10 new countries.
3. Increase international sales by 50 per cent annually for the next three years.
4. Attend major international golf trade shows to showcase our brand and products.
5. Collaborate with international golf influencers and ambassadors to promote BooYaa Golf globally.
